JAMMU: Recognizing the contributions made by individuals, NGOs and institutions in the research and development of the Tribals of J&K, Tribal Research Institute, J&K invited nominations for the inaugural Tribal Awards instituted by the Government of Jammu and -Cashmere.
The Secretary of the Department of Tribal Affairs, Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, who is also in charge of the director of the Tribal Research Institute J&K, said on the occasion that the first edition of the Tribal Awards is a remarkable step in recognizing the contributions made by individuals and institutions in tribal matters. research and improvement of socio-economic status of tribals in J&K UT.
Dr Shahid further informed that the UT government, under the leadership of Lieutenant Governor J&K Sh. Manoj Sinha has taken a series of measures for the welfare of tribal communities and recognizing their contribution in this area is a another important step. He further informed that in the Best Tribal Achiever category, 10 prizes will be awarded (05 men and 05 women) with a cash prize of Rs 50,000, a citation and a trophy for the outstanding work done in various fields like sports , education, culture, literature, science, technology, entrepreneurship and biodiversity.
02 Individuals, PRIs, NGOs and community organizations were awarded prizes for exemplary community service to Listed Tribes. In addition to the top performing 02 Gram panchayat / BDC / DDC who have significantly contributed to the improvement of the socio-economic conditions of the listed tribes, will be awarded a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh, a citation and a trophy. The Concerned Panchayat would use the prize money for building community assets, he added.
Dr Shahid further informed that the nominations for the awards in the 03 categories will be submitted by individuals, NGOs and institutions to the District Selection Committee (DLSC) constituted under the chairmanship of the relevant Deputy Commissioner and that the DLSC will submit proposals to UT A level selection committee that will finalize the awards in each category and submit its recommendations to the administrative department.
Applications will be received from 11-01-2022 to 19-01-2022 at the office of the deputy commissioner concerned who will have the applications evaluated by the DLSCs on the basis of merit. All applications will be considered at the district level and no individual applications will be accepted by the Tribal Research Institute J&K. The awards will be announced by the Tribal Affairs Department, J&K on the eve of Republic Day 2022.
